Aorta AAA (Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm) Screening
We will perform a detailed scan to look at the size, shape and condition of the:
-
aorta
-
iliac arteries
-
should an aneurysm be identified, both kidneys and renal arteries will also be evaluated
-
assessing for any aortic narrowing from calcification, plaque or thrombus build-up
Common examples for having this ultrasound screening are:
-
detection of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
-
monitoring aortic dilation
We will provide a Radiologist report within 24 hours.
Need to expose lower part of abdomen so ideally wear 2 piece garments i.e pants and top.
8 hours of fasting required.
No breakfast if morning appointment / no lunch for afternoon appointment. Clear fluids are allowed.
For diabetics maintain food intake but avoid fatty or dairy products.
Maintain normal medication.
